Feeling Trapped by Old Patterns?

Therapy Templates (6).png

Do you find yourself or others in your life complaining about the same thing or the same issue over and over again?

When stuck in a rut of old patterns, first it can feel as if you’re trapped.

Why is everyone always giving me advice? I must be __________
What am I always left out?
I'm never going to get what I want to achieve what I want
I've tried EVERYTHING, NOTHING will EVER work for me
MY trauma is too intense to get better, I'm doomed for life
I have ____________ diagnosis so this is just how it is. I have to suffer through it.

Or perhaps you feel the same stuff in your body all the time
Chronic pain in one area or all over
Migraines when you get your period
Feeling dizzy or spacey in your head
Hard to concentrate
Heart racing for "no reason"
Super sensitive
Overeating, medicating, sexing, drugging

Yeah, that stuff.

First, I just want you to know this makes so much sense. Your nervous system created these beliefs and body patterns to protect you and keep you alive. And you made it...you ARE ALIVE. So, your system did it's job.

Thanks, nervous system!

But these old patterns (ie defensive responses) aren't working for you anymore. It's time to make a change.

You know new patterns can be created, you believe you can change but you've tried all the stuff and nothing WORKED.

Neuroplasticity

the ability of the brain to form and reorganize synaptic connections,
especially in response to learning or experience

-Oxford Languages

Change happens in your BodyHome. In your physiology. In your nervous system. When you learn how to add this nervous system piece, your sensations, images, impulses, and emotions, it creates space for your old patterns to digest.

It’s not enough to strategize and think differently about your patterns. You already did all that in the years and maybe decades of therapy and self-care. Let’s be honest. If that worked for you, you wouldn't be reading this far.

Let's do it differently together.

With the tools of Somatic Experiencing you can create new patterns to feeling easeful, peaceful, and full range of emotion without feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, or in pain. You will feel like your whole self again

How to Treat Trauma

When I say trauma, I mean the way your nervous system, your automatic protective system, has held on to old experiences. In the nervous system healing world, trauma is not the event, but the stuck stress-energy in your nervous system from your experiences.

In order to treat and digest or release this stuck stress-energy, or trauma, we work inside your physiology which is your body and mind. I call it your BodyHome. It includes thoughts & meaning, impulses & behaviors, emotions, images & visions, and finally sensations.

While hanging out with my 2-year-old niece this past month, I had a huge ah-hah moment. She was narrating what she was seeing, doing, hearing, and feeling. And each time, I or my sis (her mom) would repeat what she was saying. Validating it. Helping her to feel seen, heard, and helping her to learn about her own body and the world around her. First had I understood, this act of her experiencing something and then having it validated was developing her ability to digest her experiences increasing her capacity to handle life as it comes.

When you’re interacting with your somatic system, it is very impactful to treat your system like a 2-year-old. To find a way to invite your somatic senses into your experience and validate them. This is what practicing self-love, care, and honoring actually means on a nervous system level. And your autonomic nervous system is not only for protection, its job is to keep you alive on every level. It beats your heart, breathes your breath, manages your blood sugar, triggers oxytocin and cortisol among other chemicals and hormones.

So… it controls your mental and physical health. It’s a big deal!

This work takes learning new skills and new patterns.
Let’s learn together in one on one sessions or in class this week.

Anxiety , Overwhelm and Overthinking

Therapy Templates (6).png

Been thinking a lot...about thinking. (HAH, of course!)

The head really gets so much air time.

Are you an overthinker too?  Do you ever get sick of your own thoughts repeating over and over again?  Judgments, complaints, self-criticism, ruminating about the same conversation over and over again, planning, deciding.  OY!!

It's exhausting!

If only thinking through things worked, you’d be healed by now, my friend.

On a purely literal level, it is so ridiculous to only use 1/8 of your resources.  Your little noggen, the orb at the top of your body, YOUR head is a small part of the whole of your physical body.  Also, the brain in your head is attached to the brain in your spine, organs, and entire body system.  What about all that OTHER information?  When do you pay attention to the rest of your body experiences?

It's not usually when you're having a nice time with someone or appreciating a movie or taking a walk outside.

I'll tell you when.

You pay the most attention when you're having pain or discomfort.  When your heart is breaking or you're irritable or having cramps.  How would you feel if you were ignored for the most part all day, even though you're right there in the room?  It would take me all of 5 seconds to be hurt by that and I might want to throw a tantrum. The struggle with anxiety, depression, overwhelm is your BodyHome saying, "LISTEN TO ME"

I'm very curious about what it can feel like when I let other parts of me have some air time.  What's it like to take more time during the day to feel sensations? to notice images in my mind? to feel impulses and emotions?

Think of your body as a community.  When it comes to any community, collaboration from the members brings about greater expansion.  Letting the mind experience these other aspects of yourself, Images, Emotions, Impulses, and Sensations, you can be more efficient in how you spend your life energy.

Have you been riding extreme emotions these days and tried thinking yourself through it on your own or in therapy? All of the thinking has been helpful but you're still not feeling the way you want to feel, perhaps now is the time to approach healing in a new way, from your body.

Somatic Experiencing will help you reclaim more of yourself and build a lifelong relationship with your BodyHome. You will feel that you're more in control, that you have the capacity to handle the emotions that arise and you will feel as if you're coming back to yourself. The best is you will have more sustained energy.
